"Leaving Laos, and escaping the Viet-Cong was treacherous. The future was unknown to everyone. Father and mother were aware that leaving Laos did not mean that we will necessarily live. We left knowing that we could also end up dying. There was only a very little chance of us surviving the dangers of crossing. As soon as our family was allowed to enter the Chiang Kham refugee camp, Father was forced to go back to Laos to fight the Viet-Cong. Mother, my little baby brother, who was only 1 month old, and I were left behind in the camp."
