Senator @kamalaharris said she accepted her VP nomination because of the values her immigrant mom instilled in her. We loved her story and love sharing more #Immigrant
mom stories. This next #AAPISheRose
story comes from one of our own organizers Nue Lee and her tribute to her mom🌹
"I love the smile in this photo of my beautiful, strong, and resilient Hmong refugee mom. She must have been 19 when this photo was taken in the Thai refugee camps right before her journey to the US. This wasn’t just a brave face—my mom was not a force to be reckoned with, raising seven children and doing everything in her power to ensure we are all college graduates. All seven children. This was no small feat since five of us are her daughters and as her ntxhais, she did not burden us with any role or expectation other than to continue to be strong, resilient, and true to our values and aspirations—shattering the glass ceiling, at least in our family. Four of her daughters have completed or are currently enrolled in professional and doctoral programs. Ua tsaug os peb tus niam zoo.
This is a special post dedicated to my mother, one badass #AAPIshero
and to celebrate the power wielded by all AAPI women. I hope young AAPI women and girls are watching as the first AAPI VP candidate steps onto the debate stage tonight. The future is female."
