Words by @sahmable, "Happy belated Halloween from Professor Oak, Nurse Joy, and Pikachu!
Also, I want to start off the #30daysofthankful
with an odd nomination- THIS PANDEMIC.
While I understand the pain, damage, confusion, hurt, and dismay it may have caused, I also want to give credit where credit is due. This pandemic has allowed my husband and I to get to a better place of communication in our relationship.
We may have only been married for a little over a year, but let me tell you- they aren’t kidding when they say the first year of marriage is rough. Now try adding a baby to the mix as well as other adult responsibilities like buying a home and getting a career because you are fresh out of college.
This pandemic resulted in a work from home order that allowed us to work on our communication skills. Seeing how the other communicates with friends, family, the dog, and even the baby and being able to see the genuine love in everything they do. The biggest reminder we needed was that THEY ARE NOT OUT TO GET YOU!
That’s how we worded it at least. Essentially, when you hear or see something that offends you, upsets you, causes you anxiety, take a step back and try to see things from your significant other’s perspective. Even when they ARE trying to piss you off, there is probably a reason deep down relating to how much they love you. They would rather fight with you every day for the rest of their lives than to love anyone else for a single day.
So, I am thankful for the opportunity that this pandemic has given us to learn how to communicate as a married couple and as parents. While I can’t wait for it all to be over, I am thankful for the positive outcomes that have come from it!"
